The drive from New Orleans along the Old Spanish Trail Scenic Highway was especially beautiful. The roads were lined with huge moss-covered oaks and the amazing old mansions in Cajun country made you feel like you were in an entirely different time period. It seemed that we should be sipping lemonade on the lawn in 19th century garb. We make camp for the night at Sam Houston State Park near Lake Charles, LA. Our first night of camping was ROUGH. The humidity was almost unbearable through the night, but at least we got to see some wildlife- deer and ducks!
The road was lined with huge estates like these!
A very patriotic American. Whoo ha!
Our first campsite of the trip.
