Day 10 Sedona, AZ to the Grand Canyon, North Rim

We got up around 7 and I started on my bottomless cup of coffee, thanks KOA. I am now a true believer in the greatness that is the KOA campground. Slide Rock State Park is like a mystical oasis in the middle of the Arizona desert. The Oak Creek Canyon just might be the absolute most beautiful drive to date. The road winds it's way though the bottom of these cathedrals of red rock. The mini handled it like a champ too, gripping turns like it was rails.

[see-nik, sen-ik]
Near the Southern end of the drive was Slide Rock State Park. Through the however many millions of years the frigid Oak Creek has carved away this wonderful world of slippery sandstone and rushing water. I was stoked we got there early, because on the way out we saw a line of cars backed up out to the road waiting for a space to park.

"I wanna go again!!"

a little shallower than I expected

After we got hungry, we decided to move on and find a meal. The obvious choice was the tourist town of Sedona, just a little ways south of Slide Rock. We were in the middle of a vigorous search for a cool Sedona patch for the collection when came upon this trading post. Right when we drove up we were greeted by the following pile of buffalo skulls. Needless to say, we had to check this place out.
a collection of skulls that is eye level with Denise

Way better luck than some dinky rabbit's foot

We headed north on the 89 towards the grand canyon. Somebody told me the Northern Rim was WAY better than it's brother to the south. This turned out to be a half truth. The camp ground was a solid 20 degrees cooler than the desert below. The coin operated showers were kind of funny, but apparently water is at a premium on this plateau. maybe. After the proprietor told us we could camp next to the horses Denise was in the car driving towards the fence. They were all affectionately named "little one", even the big ones.

Little One (I, II, III, IV)

We slept with the rain fly off to catch some desert stars. Zen.

Canyon exploration starts tomorrow.
